A dream destination for honeymooners

Knysna has always been known as a romantic destination. Maybe it is the picturesque setting on the Knysna lagoon surrounded by indigenous forests and mountain ranges at the back. Or the beautiful sunsets over the Knysna lagoon, yachts bobbing in the small craft harbour at the Knysna Waterfront and restaurants dotted around the water’s edge.

But there’s more:

The allure of the Knysna Heads
This is where the Knysna estuary (or lagoon as it is widely known) meets the ocean. The views are breathtaking and the force of the water traveling in and out, depending of the tide, is both frightening and magnetic. At low tide tidal pools make their appearance to vow old and young, and at high tide one can marvel at the waves crashing into ancient rock formations.

A cruise on the Knysna lagoon
A visit to Knysna is not complete without a cruise on the Knysna lagoon. From classic boats to yachts, paddle cruiser or oyster cruise, there is something for everyone.

The Knysna oysters
Since the time of Casanova oysters have been known for its aphrodisiac qualities. Coastal oysters are found along the coastline around Knysna and there are few things more romantic than enjoying a platter of oysters together, with of course a glass of your favourite Bubbly!

A walk on the beach
What is more romantic than a beach walk? A short 15min drive will take you to the most exquisite beaches. Perfect for long walks and refreshing swims in summer and winter, in Knysna you are spoilt for choice.

A forest walk at Jubilee Creek with a swim in the waterfall at the end
The Knysna indigenous forest is mysterious, awe-inspiring and once you’ve entered it, you feel as if you are in a different world. There are many hikes to choose from, but we love the Jubilee Creek Walk. The river you criss-cross is the place where gold was found in the late 1800’s and along the walk you can still see some of the old mining shafts. The bonus of this walk – the magical waterfall at the end, perfect for a swim. It also has some great picnic spots at the start for a romantic picnic for 2.

A picnic with a view
In Sedgefield is a viewpoint on top of the hill behind the town called “Cloud Nine”. It has the most exquisite view over the Sedgefield lagoon and the ocean behind it. Pack a picnic and watch the sunset over the sea and the mountains, and the rivers behind you. IT is easily one of the most exquisite views of the area. And if you are lucky you will find yourself in the midst of some paragliders launching around you. A magical experience…

As you can see it is really easy to find romance in Knysna, in fact we will go so far to say that wherever you turn you’re bound to find some magic, no matter what season!
